Two days ago, on Monday, December 5th, I was 19 weeks. So today I am currently in the middle of my 20th week, (meaning I have finished 19 weeks, and I am on my 3rd day) I measure my weeks/days through an app on my iPhone that is called Baby Bump.

Baby bump is an app for women who are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, have been pregnant and lost the baby, and for women who have babies. The women who use the app can find pregnancy information, baby advice and parenting tips. I read it whenever I am bored, before bed, and if I wake up in the middle of the night to pee and can’t fall back asleep.

I am just as addicted to this app as I am to Words With Friends. Which is A LOT! ha.

I also decided my weekly pregnancy updates were rather sloppy and needed some organization! So I copied a few of the blogs that I frequently read, and will be using their outline to update my pregnancy news each week from now on.

How Big is the Baby?

According to babycenter.com:

Your baby’s sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don’t be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you.

Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on her skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.

How I’m Changing Physically

Well, after a few days in the end of the 18th week I wasn’t feeling anymore flutters (which also may be due to the fact that it was the weekend and we were out and about both days all day long) but that kind of scared me! However two days ago (19 weeks exactly) I felt a very definite kick! It was just after I had eaten a chocolate chip granola bar, and I was sitting on the couch. Out of nowhere I just felt this kick, and then I felt another, and another. I ran to Chase so he could hopefully feel her kicking too, and he held his hand on my belly for about a minute and then she kicked again! It was so cool to finally feel her from the outside and for Chase to feel it too! She continued to kick throughout the rest of the day, and now it has just become the norm. She kicks many times throughout the day no matter what I am doing. Its just like a switch went off and now she is a kicker! Interesting!

In the gym I am feeling great! I did have a little trouble doing lunges yesterday. When I bent down into the lunge, the lower right side of my back would ache.  I tried to do a few more lunges to see if it was just a one time thing- but the pain continued so I decided no more lunges for now. I’ll try again in a few days and see if its any better. I’m still comfortable doing squats, push ups, mountain climbers, arms weight exercises, yoga, stretching, and cardio.

I also want to buy some at home work out videos! I am interested in the 10 minute Solution: Prenatal Pilates, and Crunch: Yoga Mama.

Before I can start these I will have to go out and buy another yoga mat. I have to double layer my yoga mat if I want to do the video at home because we have all hard wood floors (with concrete underneath) and the floor is just too hard on my body for only one yoga mat.  {We can’t have any rugs in our house because our littlest puppy Vienna (the white one) still likes to use rugs as a potty pad. Maybe it is because they are soft like her potty pad she thinks that is ok? Regardless, we have had to throw out all of our area rugs and such because its just too hard to keep them clean when she is still learning. Potty training is difficult, and some dogs just take a lot longer to learn.}

How I’m feeling

I feel awesome! The second trimester has really been treating me well! I don’t have any issues with acne like some pregnant women get, and that is really making me happy! I am getting really excited for our “anatomy scan” this Friday. We paid to have a gender scan done at 14 weeks, but our primary doctor has never given us one. So we will be going in to basically confirm that our baby is in fact a girl. I am never one to turn down an ultrasound- its so nice to see what is going on inside my belly.  I love to just watch her and see what she is doing in there on a daily basis.

I am sleeping like a log at night, just wake up about 3 times every night to pee. But other than that I have been getting some amazing sleep! The dogs are content sleeping in their bed, it has been a nice smooth adjustment.

What I’m Eating

For breakfast, I am still having an Ezekial Sprouted Grain English muffin with Tofutti Non-Hydrogenated Plain cream cheese. (even tho I eat this everyday I usually scarf it down and completely forget to take a pic of it when its ready to be eaten)

For lunch and dinner soups or salads are the norm. Occasionally I will eat 1/2c. of egg whites with a piece of Ezekial Low Sodium toast spread with a little Earth Balance butter.

Snacks are usually smoothies or fruits and veggies. I love honeycrisp apples with a tbsp. of Better N’ Peanut Butter. I also love to eat tangelos, brown organic pears, grapes, and cut up pineapple. Veggies I like to eat organic persian cucumbers or baby carrot sticks dipped in spicy hummus.

Before bed I will often have a ramekin of honey nut cheerios with a tiny squirt of agave and unsweetened almond milk. (I find that this really helps me to sleep better through the night and get back to sleep when I do wake up to pee)
